The first day we left a little later than planned because we had to drop off the dog. We didn't leave Rochester until close to 10:00 am and we took our time at rest stops to eat and stretch. By 7:00 at night everyone was very irritable and Uncle Sam said that it was foggy so we stayed at the Comfort Inn in Virginia. My first experience with southern hospitality as the front desk manager gave me the AAA discount even though I don't have AAA! We got the room including breakfast for only $62.00 and had we planned this I would have had the kids bring their bathing suits because they even had a pool!
I gave the kids a warm bath and we snacked on sandwiches, fruit, cheese and crackers, and juice.

Waking up and snuggling!
We woke up early the next morning feeling refreshed, I had the remaining kids take their showers and we were on the road again by 7:00. The kids all fell back to sleep, but the quietness in the van and the fact that no one was screaming was actually lulling Jerry and I a little too much. Thankfully John was up and demanding within the hour!
We had a lot of trouble in Greensboro getting on the right ramp-it took us 3 attempts before we made it. Ridiculous I know but we were exhausted by then. We were finally at Grandma and Grandpa's by 12:15. We would have been there sooner, but Uncle Sam's directions were too detailed! He told me to turn onto
McKinzie so when we passed a '
McKenzie' I was very upset that they would name two streets almost the same- they just might confuse someone! Or your husband's uncle just may have picked up a little southern accent...

We took the kids and Grandpa to the 82
ND Airborne Museum in Fort Bragg. It was very nice and it's free too! They have life like
mannequins of soldiers from all different war we have fought in. At one point it looks like your walking through a European village that has felt the effects of the war and in the
background it sounds like there a re bombers overhead and you can hear people shouting. There are helicopters on the ceiling and life like tanks and an
Arab village. It was very
educational and literally brought the history book alive.
One thing about this
museum is that I was impressed by the courtesy and friendliness of the volunteers. They offered up a wealth of information and seemed truly passionate about educating people about the wars and how they were fought!

My lifesaver was this great wooden park we found a couple minutes from Jerry's parents house. (Thank you Uncle Sam for the map and detailed directions- I once again got lost-
lol)

Jerry and Uncle Sam (Aunt Diane is in the background). We had chili over at their house one night. While we were there
Jer's cousin Sammy called and said that he would rather cut his....... never mind.... then be there. He was very jealous that we were there and I heard that he cried himself to sleep that night because he missed us all so much. It's okay Sam.

It was suddenly quiet and when I looked over.. there was Johnny fast asleep.

Aunt Tina playing with the boys!
